よさこい(YOSAKOI)

そう、それは高知で生まれた踊りである。
今年は8月9~12日の間、本場高知でよさこい祭りが行われる。

もともとは戦後の不況を吹き飛ばそうと発案された祭りで、

実に元気になる。
手には鳴子を携え、100人の仲間と、地方車が鳴らすよさこい鳴子踊りのメロディーと共に
踊り狂う。

祭りの雰囲気と、仲間と、踊りに、
酔いしれる。

ここまで自分を湧き立たせるものはあるのか
そう思わせるくらい、面白い。

練習が今日で終わり、あとは出発するのみとなった。ここまで自分を育ててくれた振り付け師の方に感謝。
しかし、ふとまわりを見渡してみると、感謝すべきなのは振り付け師の方だけではないことに気がつく。
私が参加しているチームは大学の学部の有志で構成されていて、宿・交通、ダンス、衣装、地方車制作はすべて学生が行っている。その仕事もさらに細分化されるが、それらのうちひとつでも欠けていては、今回のプロジェクトは成り立っていないであろう。そう思えば、裏方の仕事というのは、本当に大きなものであると感じた。

一幕の劇をとってみても、製作者、構成者、演出家、音楽監督、編曲、美術、証明、音響、振付、衣装、ヘアー・メイク、歌唱指導、演出助手、舞台監督、制作、大道具制作、証明操作、音響制作、美術助手、舞台監督助手、衣装制作、ざっとこれだけの仕事がある。
舞台で活躍する人だけが、役割を持つわけではない。
そう考えれば、一つひとつを見る目が変わる。

そうすれば、世の中への理解がちょっとは深まるだろう。

よさこいを踊るときにも、こういう目を持ってほしい。

Yes, that is the dance born in Ko-chi prefecture.

This year, it is going to take place in August 9th to 12nd in its home town, Ko-chi pref.

The festival originally started as a solution to get rid of depression, and it really does make us cheerful.

We have “Naruko” in our hands and along with hundred pals we go crazy dancing along with its melody.

We are drunk to the atmosphere of the festival, the participants and its dance.

Nothing ever makes me as excited. The festival makes me think like this.

The practice is over today and we have only to leave. I want to thank our choreographer for teaching and bringing me up.

However, when I looked around I realized the people I should be thankful for are not only him.

The team I am in consists of volunteers from a faculty of our uni, and reservation of hotels, transportations, dance, clothing sets are all done by students. Those jobs are ramified further and our project would not have succeeded if one job had been incomplete. In this way, I realized that sceneshifters are indispensable.

A drama is made up of dozens of different element, jobs. Actors are not the only ones. Thinking in this way, everything seems to be different.

You will be able to see the world much more accurately.

I hope you keep this in mind when dancing Yosakoi.

音(SOUNDS)

朝はアラームで目覚めるし、トースターでパンが焼ければ音で知らせてくれます。
好きな映画には、必ず印象的なシーンとともに心に残る音楽があります。
みんなそれぞれ好きな歌があって、曲の中にも好きなフレーズやメロディーがあります。
国にはその国独自の楽器があって、その国独自の音色があります。

このように音というのは、さまざまな文化に根付いて存在しており、私たちの生活にとても密接なものです。


また、街中で急に大きな音を出せば、周囲の人間は振り返ります。
選挙車や路上ライブがその例えではないでしょうか。


音を知ることで、人を引き付け、魅了し、時には幸福感や満足感といった付加価値を与えることができます。

映像のおまけだととらえがちですが、音しだいで今回のmission、より大きな印象を与えられるんじゃないでしょうか。

You wake up when alarm clock goes off in the morning, and you will know your toast is done when the toaster rings. In favorite movies, there are favorite scenes with memorable music. Everyone has his or her favorite song, and there are favorite words and melodies in it. A country has its own musical instruments and traditional tone.

The roots of sounds are in various cultures and music lie so close to our daily lives.

If you suddenly make a big noise in city, everyone around you will look back at you. Cars for election campaigns and street lives are the good examples. We can attract and fascinate people, and we give them satisfaction and happiness by understanding sounds.

We tend to regard sound as giveaway of films, but we may give stronger impression in this mission, depending on sounds.

Sounds.

Such a mystery. Such an unknown factor.

ミッション（たぶん）インポッシブル： ミッキーマウスを胴上げせよ(MISSION (PROBABLY) IMPOSSIBLE: Toss a Mickey mouse into the air.)

東京ディズニーランドのミッキーマウスを、何かのイベントにかこつけて、胴上げしてしまおうというプロジェクト。Mickeyも、見ている人も、びっくりするだろうが、楽しめるとも思う。

だが、決して、この行為に寛容になれない組織がある。Mickeyの背後にいる例の組織だ。

というわけで、このプロジェクトは実現できないままに終わるだろう。

This is the project which operates to toss a Mickey mouse in the air in the Tokyo Disney Land, under some kind of event. Not to mention the Mickey himself in the air, but also the audience will surely be entertained as well as surprised.

However there are some people who will maybe object to this project. It’s those who are behind the Mickey mouse.

For this reason, this project will probably go undone, sadly.

どっきり（A SUPRISE）

いよいよ夏休みが始まりましたね。

ということで今回は、僕が過去にされたイタズラの中で一番印象に残ってるものを紹介します。



ある休みの日、学校の友達15人くらいで、午前中ボーリングしてから、午後学校に行ってサッカーして遊ぼうっていう計画がありました。

ボーリングは10時に現地集合の予定だったんですが、9時前に友達から家に電話がかかってきて、「昨日連絡したやつが間違えて9時集合って言っちゃって、もうけっこう人が集まってるから、10時じゃなくてなるべく早く来て！」って言われたんです。それですぐ家を出たら、なんとマンションの入口のところで友達10何人が待ち構えてて、一斉にびっくりした顔を写メられたんです。

電話の嘘がめっちゃ上手くて、完全に信じきって家を出たので、ホントにびっくりしたんですが、同時に凄い嬉しかったんですね。自分のためにわざわざ朝早く起きて、最寄駅から徒歩12分、ボーリング場まで40分かかる場所まで来て、一瞬のドッキリために準備してくれたってことが。


今回のmissionも、その場で見た人に「いいもん見れてラッキーだった」と思ってもらえるような、そしてそれがうまく伝わるような映像に仕上げたいと思ってます。

まだまだ課題が多いですが、がんばっていきます！

Finally the summer has begun!

Today let me talk about my most impressive mischief that I came across in the past.

One day I did not have school for some reason and I and about fifteen of my friends decided to go bowling in the morning and play soccer at school in the afternoon.

We were supposed to meet at the bowling place at ten o’clock, but a friend called me around nine and said that almost everybody has already arrived there so I had better come as quick as possible. So I rushed out of my house and I saw all of the friends lined up in front of my house, taking photos of me in astonishment!

I totally believed my friend on the phone because his lie sounded so true. I was very much surprised but at the same time, I was really happy. They woke up early, walked for twelve minutes from the nearest station to my house, which is located at forty minutes walk from the bowling place, just for me, preparing just for one tiny moment.

I am hoping to make our mission somehow entertaining, making the audience feel that they are very lucky to see it and make that into a film with a feeling of being at the live performance.

We still have a lot to work on, but we’ve got to go!

福岡での夏。(MY SUMMER IN FUKUOKA)

こんにちは！

僕は今、実家のある福岡に帰省しています。先週から福岡にいるのですが、帰省以外の目的があります。それは僕が３年前に参加した「日本の次世代リーダー養成塾」というサマーキャンプのお手伝いをすることです。簡単にこのサマーキャンプを説明すると、各界の第一線でご活躍されている「リーダー」と呼ばれるような人物たちの講義を聴いたり、全国から集まってきた高校生たちと議論しあったりするというようなものです。

因みに、Incredible Penguinのメンバーの大半は、期は違えど、この研修繋がりの仲間でもあります。3年前に出会った仲間たちと高校を卒業した今でもこうして一緒になってオモシロイコトを追求する、素敵だと思いませんか？

そんな思い入れのある研修のお手伝いに、I.P.メンバーの渡邊くんとお手伝いに来ている僕ですが、2週間の間、しっかりI.P.の広報にも走り回りたいと思っています！　普段関わることのない高校生たちが、どういったものに今関心があるのか、彼らだったらどんなイタズラを思いつくのか、などなど聞いてきます。

話は変わりますが、最後に、最近 いいな！と思ったイタズラを紹介したいと思います。

それは、Improv Everywhereが行った、「Human Mirror」というMissionです！

このMissionは、15組の一卵性双生児(?)が地下鉄の列車内で文字通り"人間の鏡"を作る、というものなのですが、言葉で説明するよりは、下の動画をご覧になられた方がはやいでしょう。

実は、僕はこれをはじめ見たとき、一目で「あっ、やられた！」と思ってしまいました。なぜなら、このMissionが面白すぎたからです…。

僕は、こんなMissionをIncredible Penguinを通して追求していけたらな、と日々思っています。何も知らずに見た人が、一目で「面白い！」と感じてしまう。何らかのイタズラをやってみたいなと思っている遊び心に溢れた人ならば、すぐに、「これをマネでもいいからやってみたい！」と思わせるような。

これまで行われていないMissionを実行し、世界に発信するという目的がある以上、同じ「Human Mirror」をやることはないでしょう。でも、一目見た人が、これすごいなっと思えるようなMissionをこれからも追求していき、「Human Mirror」を超える面白さのMissionを実行していきたいと思います。

MY SUMMER IN FUKUOKA

Hello!

I am now back in my home town, Fukuoka. I came back last week and there is another reason for me being here except homecoming. I am here to help a summer school, educating next leaders in Japan, in which I took part three years ago. To briefly explain it, we invite those who are considered to be leaders from various fields and audit their lectures, and we also gather high school students from all around Japan to discuss today’s problems.

Most of the members of Incredible Penguin are, may they be different in what year they participated in the summer camp, the graduates of this course. Those who met three years ago still get together and make something happen. Isn’t it so cool?

Now that I am in Fukuoka to help running the summer camp with one of the I.P. member, Watanabe-kun, I am going to literally run around to familiarize Incredible Penguin to the participants. I am going to ask them what they are interested in now, and what mischief they would want to try, etc.

Now, change of subject. I would like to introduce one mischief that caught my eyes from “Improv Everywhere”, called “Human Mirror”.

This mission is to literally make a human mirror by using fifteen pairs of identical twins on a metro. I think it is easier if you can see the video below.

Frankly speaking, I was amazed and shocked when I first watched the video because it was very funny!

I myself hope to pursuit this kind of mission through Incredible Penguin. Such that makes the audience knowing nothing find it entertaining. Such that makes those with mischievous mind want to actually try it.

As long as we have this purpose to make missions happen and to deliver them to all around the world, we are not going to merely mimic “Human Mirror”. We are going to pursuit the missions that amaze the passing-by audience, that goes beyond “Human Mirror” in terms of quality.

鮮度にもこだわります!!(KEEP IT FRESH!!)

この記事を書いている今、とっても気分がいいです♪こんなに蒸し暑い日なのに、なんで僕はこんなに気分がいいかって？(←聞いてないｗ)

実は今まで、映画を観ていたんですよ。最初はミスタービーンを見て、その後にロードオブザリング。とてもじゃないが、ミスマッチ(笑)前半は爆笑で後半は興奮。そしてそのまま、この記事を書いているわけです。そして、この記事を書きながら、さらにノリノリな洋楽を聞いています！かかっているのはクリスティーナ・アギレラの曲です。この記事を書くのも楽しいですが、気分がいいと、もっと楽しくなるというものです。

ところで、数十年前の映画、ってみたことありますか？それらの映画って、脚本とか、演技とかは全然問題ないし、面白いんですよ。でも残念なことに演出が…。特に音楽とか。例えば、悪役との、緊張の格闘シーンなのに、BGMなしで戦ってたりとか。観客からみたら、どこか間抜けに見えてしまいます(笑)とっても内容は面白いのに、十分アピールしきれてない!!なんだか、もどかしさすら感じます。

映画だけじゃなく、身近な所ではYoutubeにも面白い動画をよく見かけます。色々な挑戦とか、バカバカしいこととか。これらの面白い動画、ってほとんど例外なくBGMが内容と合ってますよね！演出が上手いなぁ、と感心することもしばしば。とはいえ、そんなことを気にしないでいつも見ているのですが(笑)

僕達のイタズラも世界中の皆さんに見ていただくために、Youtubeにアップロードするつもりです。もちろん、イタズラの質は最高級をお届けします！でも、その面白さを100％伝えるためには、内容だけじゃ足りないですよね。届ける方法も考えないと！例えば、僕達が触発された団体、「Improv Everywhere」のイタズラ動画とか見ていただくと分かると思うのですが、彼らの演出って上手いですね。僕達Incredible Penguinも面白いことやるよ、って宣言してるわけだから、観客の皆さんに届くまで最高の面白さをキープ。つまり、面白さの鮮度は抜群で(笑)だから、届ける方法も面白く！僕達は、「最高に面白い」を常に考えます。期待していてくださいね。

I am feeling very happy right now! Why am I feeling so good on such a hot and humid day? Let me explain then.

I have been watching a movie till now. At first I have watched “Mr. Bean” and then “The Lord o the Rings”. I know, it is such a random choice! Laughter in the beginning, excitement in the end, and here I am, writing this article. Now I am listening to Christina Aguilera. Writing articles for this blog itself is fun, but good mood make it even more fun.

By the way, have you ever seen films from a few decades ago? Those films are okay, I mean the script, the acting and so, but the problem is the stage direction. The music is worst. For instance in a tense scene where the main characters fight against heavy, no music is played. It somehow seems fool without music. Even if the content is good, it is often not made in to a “film” good enough. It even makes me feel irritated.

I am not only referring to films. In YouTube, I find many funny videos, filming various challenges and silly stuff. Those funny videos have one thing in common: the content fits its music really well. I am often impressed by its harmony. Well for most of the time, I do not worry about it too much though!

As for our mischief, we are going to upload them on YouTube so anyone can see from any place on earth. Of course, I guarantee on its quality! However to fully deliver its content, just the “content” is not good enough. We also have to think about how to deliver it. You will see what I mean If you can see the movies from “Improv Everywhere”, inspiring and triggering the foundation of our organization. As we, Incredible Penguin, are advertising that we are doing something funny, we should keep it in its best shape until it is delivered to you, the audience. We are going to “keep it fresh”! Delivery should be funny too, right? We are always aiming for “first-class funniness”. Be looking forward to it!

打ち水（Uchimizu）

こんにちは。


暑い日が続きますね。それもそのはず昨日は大暑、暦の上では日本で最も暑い日です。そのうちバターみたいに溶けちゃうんじゃないと真剣に思ってしまいます。いや、でも本当に人が次々に溶けていったら面白いかも。Incredible Penguinはそんなビックリ人間を随時募集しています！(←ウソです。)


さて、突然ですが皆さん“打ち水”ってご存知ですか？そうです、太陽の光をたくさん浴びたアッツアツの道に文字通り水を涼しくまいていくことです。打水は本来、お茶の席に客人を迎える「おもてなし」として定着した日本の暮らしの文化です。そんな文化をなぜ紹介したかといいますと、近年この打ち水という文化が再認識され、温暖化によるヒートアイランドの抑制やエネルギーの節約に繋がることが期待されているからです。数字的なデータを出すならば打ち水前と後では周辺気温が２℃ほど下がるとのことです。２℃と聞いてたった２℃と思うか、２℃もかと思うかは個人によると思いますが、大暑の昨日そんな打ち水を実際してきた僕の感想を言いますと、２℃で結構変わるんですね。実際やる前より涼しく感じるんです。日本の文化って素晴らしい。もちろん気温が実際下がるという点は重要で素晴らしいのですが、参加すると楽しくて(参加者どうしで仲良くなれますしね)、やることは凄くシンプルだから説明はほぼ不要で端から見てもわかり易い。だから途中参加もできちゃう。そういうのってIncredible Penguinが掲げるミッションに共通するものがあるんじゃないかな。


僕らは基本的に面白い事を追求していて、ばかばかしい面白さやクールな面白さ。そういったものはクリエイティブなモノでなければならないと僕は思い込んでいましたが、文化や伝統から学ぶことも多くあるのではないか？打ち水体験でそんなことを思いました。

Hello!

It is so hot these days. Yesterday was a hottest day in Japan on calendar, so this might explain why. I am pretty much serious in thinking I would melt like butter in the end…Well actually, it would be interesting to see people melting one after another! No no, it is a bad joke, isn’t it…

By the way, do you know what “uchimizu” is? It is to splash water on the hot road heated from sunshine in order to lower the temperature around house. Uchimizu is the Japanese culture established originally as the reception for welcoming the guests visiting for tea ceremony. I introduced such a culture for a reason. For the past few years uchimizu is recognized as one of the solutions to global warming and saving energy. It is said that the temperature would go down by 2 Celsius degree after uchimizu. It is up to you to think whether 2 Celsius degree is a big difference or not, but as for me, tying uchimizu myself yesterday, it does make a big difference. It actually feels much cooler after uchimizu. It is great. Japanese culture is worth trying. The fact that the temperature actually goes down is by no means great, but there is more to it. It is just fun to take part and make friends with new people, and it is so simple that we can learn what uchimizu is just by looking for a few seconds. I believe this important quality does exist in Incredible Penguin’s missions too.

We basically pursue something interesting. They could be funny and sometimes sarcastic. I believed that these qualities are to be extracted from creativity, but I now think that there are a lot to learn from cultures and traditions too.
